Language Reading and Translation Courses

Offered fall, spring, and summer sessions. Build your language study and prepare for a translation exam.

These fully online courses are open to all students who want to study a language for translation. Gain the ability to read any scholarly texts with only the aid of a good dictionary. Work though translation assignments, proceeding from very basic grammar to more complex sentence structures. Key skills you will learn include taking advantage of similarities between English and your selected language, expert dictionary use and recognizing common grammatical structures.

French, Italian and Spanish for Reading and Translation

Gain the basic skills you need to read and translate texts to English. Learn fundamental grammar and vocabulary while translating texts from disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. This course is excellent preparation for a French, Italian and Spanish graduate-level reading knowledge exams.


Spanish for Reading and Translation: Comprehensive

Gain the skills you need to translate Spanish texts from disciplines in the social sciences and humanities to English. This comprehensive course is more extensive than the basic course with additional instructor feedback, more scholarly texts and a capstone project tailored to you.
