Summary

Move beyond the fundamentals of project management to tackle the essential elements of successful project work—from building high-performing teams and managing resources to identifying and planning for potential risks. This course provides a hands-on exploration of key practices that ensure projects run smoothly and achieve meaningful results, whether you're stepping into project management for the first time or working on projects as part of your role.

With practical tools and strategies, you will learn to manage resources efficiently, foster high-performing teams, and develop risk management plans that keep projects on track. By the end of the course, you will feel equipped to lead or contribute to projects confidently, delivering outcomes that meet goals, stay within budget, and create value. This course also counts toward the Project Management Certificate.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss the importance of resource and risk management within the project management framework.

2. Identify tools to plan, acquire, and manage high-performing project teams.

3. Evaluate best practices and develop strategies to manage internal and external project resources effectively.

4. Determine potential project risks and design comprehensive risk mitigation plans to ensure project success.

Course Structure

Live: One full day followed by two half-day sessions of live instruction on Zoom. This course is highly interactive, and participation requires a camera.

Jim Padley

(PMP, MBA) has spent 20 yrs. as a certified project manager and currently works as the Director of Project Management and Business Relationship Management at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. He has been a consultant, employee, vendor, and contractor for both public and private sector businesses.  He has experience implementing both large scale infrastructure projects, packaged implementations, and large and small-scale software development (Agile, Iterative, and Waterfall).
