The world is recognizing that worker safety is not limited to ergonomics. A joint policy brief published by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), recognizes the "inextricable links between mental health and work"; (Mental Health at Work: Policy Brief, ILO & WHO, September 2018). The WHO, the ILO, and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) have thus produced standards and guidelines for managing psychological risks in the workplace. Data shows that feeling psychologically safe at work correlates with team success by fostering innovation and improving worker commitment and team effectiveness. However, the concept of psychological health and safety at work is also a risk management approach to helping humans be and do their best within the organization. In this session, we will go through the global shift in perspective around mental health at work as a health and safety issue. We will also share the 3 pillars of psychological health and safety you can apply to your team to support innovation, build resiliency, overcome barriers and prevent burnout.

As a result of attending this workshop, leaders will be able to:

• Define the concepts of psychological health and safety as identified in global standards
• Recognize how effectively your team manages the 3 pillars of psychological health and safety
• Identify costs and risks to the team and how psychological health and safety can support future performance
• Apply the hierarchy of controls to identify interventions that would decrease the risk of burnout for the team
