Summary

Listening to podcasts is a convenient way for behavioral health professionals to learn information relevant to their work. This podcast series explores topics that have an impact on the quality of our lives and the maintenance of our mental health — issues that are often not addressed in our typical treatment plans. The seven topics in Series 1 include Music and the Brain, Sleep, Memory, Cognitive Enhancement and Artificial Intelligence, Happiness, Humor and Aging.

Content for this fully online, asynchronous podcast series is housed in Canvas (learner management system). You can listen to the audio presentations anywhere, anytime. Audio may be streamed or downloaded onto your digital device from Canvas. For mobile-friendly options, download the Canvas mobile app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Earn continuing education hours by logging in to Canvas and satisfactorily completing the short, open-note quizzes (one per podcast). Earn up to 10 continuing education hours for listening to 7 podcasts and passing 7 quizzes (80% passing grade). Learners who complete 6 podcasts and pass quizzes will earn 6 CE hours. Learners who complete 5 podcasts and pass quizzes will earn 5 CE hours. As a learner, you will have up to 180 days to complete the podcast series.

At the end of this podcast series participants will be able to:

  • Describe contemporary scientific findings regarding the listed podcast topics.
  • Gain awareness in how these topics affect the quality of life and mental health.
  • Explain ongoing research and health interventions related to each topic.
  • Assess how interventions related to these topics may improve an individual's quality of life and mental health.

David Mays

(MD, PhD, Indiana University School of Medicine) is the past forensic clinical director at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison. He also serves on the clinical faculty at UW-Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
