Summary

This three-hour course is instructed fully live online via Zoom by instructor Erica Srinivasan, PhD. It will be offered over three days, with a one-hour webinar each day.

This course will provide an in-depth exploration of complex grief types, including ambiguous loss, disenfranchised grief and anticipatory grief. Participants will gain an understanding of the unique challenges associated with these forms of grief and their impact on individuals and families. The sessions will emphasize evidence-based therapeutic guidelines and effective strategies for coping with these grief experiences in both personal and professional contexts.

Anticipatory Grief will be covered in the first session, Ambiguous Loss will be covered in the second session and Disenfranchised Grief will be covered in the third session.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between anticipatory grief, ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief.
  2. Identify the impacts of anticipatory grief, ambiguous loss, and disenfranchised grief on individuals and families.
  3. Analyze strategies for coping with anticipatory grief, ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief.
  4. Recognize and support the unique needs of those experiencing complex grief in various contexts.

Erica Srinivasan

PhD

(PhD) is an assistant professor of psychology at UW-La Crosse, where she also serves as the director for the Center for Grief and Death Education. She is co-chair for the gerontology emphasis.
