Totally online

Gain a basic overview of the knowledge and skills you need to teach in the online environment. Key topics include online course models, characteristics of online learners, understanding your role as an online instructor, how to plan content and learning activities, and strategies to manage courses.

This six-week foundational certificate is designed for nurses and other health care professionals who are new to online education or who are thinking about teaching online, either now or in the future. You’ll become acquainted with essential concepts, tools, and strategies that enable you to teach more effectively in an online environment. You’ll complete a final assignment that challenges you to apply what you learned to develop a learning activity plan that includes key components of an effective online course. (30 contact hours/3.0 CEUs)

Learning outcomes:

1. Analyze key aspects of online learning in an online discussion.

2. Demonstrate an appreciation for the online learner’s experience in an online discussion.

3. Develop personalized strategies to be an effective online instructor in an online discussion and course project.

4. Identify content resources for online teaching and learning in an online discussion and course project.

5. Develop an online learning activity that uses active learning approaches in an online discussion and course project.

6. Identify strategies for online course management in an online discussion and course project.

7. Create an online course project, applying principles of online education learned in this course.

This continuing nursing education certificate has been approved by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
