Honoring Our Common Differences: Reflective Actions for Inclusivity
continuingstudies.wisc.edu/0829-C-LAAS See upcoming datesSummary
Note: This class is offered in a highly participatory live-online format.
This renewed and revised class will focus on organizational practices in the context of our society where “isms" are deeply rooted. An organization's actions need to be grounded in a clear understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). The means by which we engage must be inclusive in practice, and actions need to be embedded in order to create lasting changes in “how we do things around here.”
Inclusivity is the practice of radical hospitality where all people experience uncompromising respect and dignity in an atmosphere of non-judgment and genuine acceptance. Inclusive organizations are fully committed to social justice and foster mutual adaptation in behaviors, practices and policies. They value and actively encourage multiple experiences and perspectives, creating a positive, collaborative environment in which people feel safe to be themselves, and to take risks toward innovation, working and learning.
Overview
Learn how to use your energy and wisdom to facilitate positive social change and leave a legacy different than the one we inherited. The goals of this workshop are to create a safe forum to engage in self-reflection and dialogue with others about inclusivity.
Participants will:
- Identify key behaviors that support an inclusive workplace culture
- Examine underlying assumptions that create the difference between an organization’s espoused values and its actual practices, i.e., the “walk-talk” gap
- Discover the key components to strategic and sustainable DEI initiatives
- Examine perceptions of “risk” and amplify your courage to take meaningful action to support inclusivity
Enrollment is limited to 26 to facilitate genuine self-reflection and dialogue.
