Grief and Resilience: Managing Life's Transitions

Summary

This class is designed for human resources managers, staff supervisors/managers and others who work with employees experiencing various losses. People need to heal and grow after experiencing many types of loss: self-worth, innocence, a loved one, a dream, a job; or losses due to substance abuse, aging, trauma and crisis. It shares information, strategies, tools and resources to best support employees to heal and grow in the midst of these losses.

Overview

Course participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the grieving styles of intuitive grievers (feeling-centered people) and instrumental grievers (cognitive and action-centered people)
  2. Discuss how to promote self-help within a griever
  3. Uncover the wants, needs and expectations of grievers
  4. Promote a griever's resilience utilizing the healing theories of Bill Worden and Thomas Attig
  5. Use tools appropriate for intuitive grievers and instrumental grievers
  6. Identify further resources on the subject of grief and resilience as well as identify counselors for possible referrals
