Death and the American Civil War

Understandings of death and dying during the American Civil War have changed significantly in recent years. New scholarship has advanced fresh understandings of not only wartime experience, but the war's place in memory as well. Along the way, even well-established figures accounting for the war's battlefield casualties have been rethought. This course offers an opportunity to investigate these new lessons and debates.
