Conflict is something most people want to avoid, yet it's a natural part of life. When approached with integrity, curiosity, and compassion, conflict can open us to new possibilities and deepen our relationships. This workshop will help you embrace both-and thinking, transforming conflict into win-win solutions and conflict resolution. Discover how to increase your comfort in dealing with conflict, crucial conversations, and to build more trust and communication in relationships.


What you will learn

  • How your history with conflict impacts your current responses to it
  • The four basic responses to conflict
  • A tool for checking out assumptions before they escalate into conflict
  • How to practice being grounded and centered in the midst of conflict
  • The differences between position statements and needs statements
  • How to clarify and express your underlying needs
  • How to use questions of inquiry to learn about others' perspectives
  • How to generate win-win solutions

Meet your instructors

Kathy Germann

(MA, The Ohio State University) has more than 35 years of experience teaching, consulting, facilitating, and coaching with more than 350 client groups across the country. She has served as an ad hoc instructor for UW-Madison for 29 years. Germann has taught on three college campuses and was an executive director in the nonprofit sector. She is known for her sense of humor and highly participatory teaching style.

Aaric Guerriero

(He/him/his) (MA, Central Michigan University) has 16 years of experience facilitating workshops and presenting on topics centered on identity, inclusion, and social justice. He currently serves as the Patient Equity and Inclusion Manager for Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Aaric currently resides in Milwaukee, WI with his dogs and best friends, Dot and Alfie.
