Assessment Tools

You can set up free individual appointments to meet with an ACSSS counselor and determine if a career planning assessment is right for you. Counselors may utilize several informal assessments at no cost to help you assess your interests, skills, values, and preferences.

Your counselor can also advise you on formal assessment options available for a fee. The formal tools we use are the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. These assessments can be completed either for an individual appointment or a workshop.

In an individual appointment your counselor can prepare you to complete the assessment and schedule an appointment for interpreting the results. Cost for either assessment is $65 and you will be able to pay by cash, check, or credit card.

If you choose the workshop option, you will be sent information to complete the assessment tool ahead of time, and evaluate the results in the group workshop setting. Assessment fees are included in the cost of the workshop.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII)

The SII is based on the idea that individuals are more satisfied and productive when they work in jobs or at tasks that they find interesting, and when they work with people whose interests are similar to their own. The SII measures your interest in a wide range of occupations, occupational activities, hobbies, leisure activities, and types of people. Your interests are compared to thousands of individuals who report being happy and successful in their jobs.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The MBTI is the most widely used personality assessment in the world. It offers a foundation for understanding the ways people think, communicate, and interact. The MBTI will assist you in identifying occupations that will be challenging and more interesting, work environments that are satisfying, effective work relationships, and leadership and interpersonal communication styles.
