2014-15 Outstanding Service to Learners Award

This award recognizes an individual who demonstrates exceptional direct service to lifelong learners, be it by program creation, teaching, advising, counseling, online course development, customer service, or other means.

Sunshine JansenSunshine Jansen
University Services Program Associate, Wisconsin Certified Public Manager Program

Sunshine was selected as this year's recipient for the Outstanding Service to Learners Award because her professionalism, initiative, and personal warmth create a positive experience for students, partners, and colleagues. Sunshine is always willing to go beyond the scope of her position to ensure everyone involved in the CPM Program has a positive experience.

“Sunshine is often the first point of contact for those with questions about the CPM Program. Her personable and reassuring manner as she explains complex information and answers multiple questions provides the encouragement an adult learner may need to commit to the CPM Program. This enables access to educational opportunities for many who have been away from formal education and may otherwise be intimidated by the UW … The CPM Program staffing model changed considerably soon after Sunshine was hired 3 years ago, requiring a higher level of responsibility from her position. This downsizing of CPM absolutely would not have succeeded had it not been for the above-and-beyond nature of Sunshine’s support.”

2014-15 Outstanding Support for Learning Award

This award recognizes an individual that provides the services that support the mission of the division — those who consistently go above and beyond expectations to ensure a positive experience for anyone who interacts with Continuing Studies. Program coordinators, accounting services, marketing personnel, administrative, and all support staff are all eligible.

Kyle SchwochKyle Schwoch
Financial Program Supervisor, Administration

Kyle was selected as this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Support for Learning Award because of his hard work and dedication to the division.

“Kyle Schwoch walks the walk and talks the talk of the division’s core value of creating a welcoming and respectful learning environment for our learners, partners, and ourselves. His ‘can do attitude’ and cheerful willingness to help wherever needed — from purchasing issues to moving furniture — is well known and valued by his peers. By assisting others in a non-judgmental, friendly manner, he encourages others to give their best and helps to create a positive work environment. He is also appreciated for his knowledge of business services as well as his patience in helping others to manage the complexities of campus policies and procedures. He has built relationships with other offices on campus to better manage the day-to-day operations of Continuing Studies, improving our effectiveness."
