Upcoming dates (1)

Summary

Note: Learners work individually with a mentor/coach. Meeting times are set by the learner and their mentor/coach.

This class is open to anyone interested in the topic. It is a required part of the Project Management Certificate. Get more information on the PM Certificate.

The purpose of this final step in the Project Management (PM) Certificate is to give learners an opportunity to individually discuss their personal goals for applying best practices and skills of project management, to review important aspects of managing projects, to ask questions to further their learning and to demonstrate that they have achieved at least a basic level of understanding of project management.

The review is not a formal test and there are no grades. Mentors assigned to each individual learner will engage in up to three hours of private conversation on Zoom during which learners can have their project plan reviewed. Alternatively, learners will engage with the mentor in a case study. Questions posed by the mentor will be easily answered if the learner was attentive during the three required classes. There are no trick questions. The focus is on concepts and application, not memorizing jargon and terms. Most mentor/coaches are members of the local Project Management Institute (PMI) chapter.

Ideally, the conversations will focus on an actual project the learner is working on. Although it is possible to fail the Applied Learning Review, this would happen typically only if a learner was unable to engage and pay attention during the three required classes. All learners will be given support and options so that they can earn the certificate. Any exceptions will be referred to the program director in charge of the PM certificate. See "at-a-glance" information for contacting the program director.

Overview

Through personal mentoring/coaching, learners will deepen their understanding of key best practices of project management and strengthen their ability to apply them in the real world.
