UW–Madison Academic Calendar

VISP students may begin their studies at UW-Madison during any of the three academic terms:

  • Fall: Early September through late December.
  • Spring: Mid-January through mid-May.
  • Summer: Many different 1 - 12 week sessions are offered from mid-May to late August.

Fall and Spring semesters offer many more course choices than the summer term.

See exact dates for the term you wish to visit on the Official Academic Calendar.

You must be able to arrive in time for the start of the semester and be able to stay for the entire term.

We offer a formal day-long orientation program for our fall and spring terms.  This orientation is typically scheduled the Thursday before the term begins.

You may enter the country up to 30 days before the start of each term on your student visa and you may remain in the U.S. for an additional period of time before either leaving the country or continuing your studies elsewhere (F-1 visa 60 days; J-1 30 days).

You may stay in the program up to three terms or longer if your academic plans require.
