How to Apply to the Visiting International Student Program
When to Apply
Please apply at least three months before the start of the semester you wish to study for unless you are already in the U.S. We do not have a fixed deadline for application but completion of the entire admission and visa process may require many months depending on your country of origin.
Step 1: Complete the free online application.
Step 2: Send scanned copies of the following items to VISP@dcs.wisc.edu:
- Scanned copy of official college transcripts (only required if applying as an undergraduate level student).
- Scanned copy of English proficiency exam scores (TOEFL/IELTS), if required. You do not need to have computerized score results sent to UW.
- Scanned copy of passport information page.
- Scanned copy of your financial support documents (bank statements and/or scholarship letters) showing at least the minimum required based on your academic level. If the bank statement is not in your own name, please provide a sponsor letter. See a sample bank statement and sample sponsor letter for assistance with this requirement.
Step 3: Within a few days after submitting your application, the VISP coordinators will contact you with more information.
