To help you make UW-Madison your headquarters for summer learning, here are answers to your questions about Summer Session:
Q. I'm a continuing UW-Madison student, do I need to apply for
the Summer Session?
A. No, continuing UW-Madison students simply Web-enroll
beginning in March.
Q. I want to be a new or transfer UW-Madison student beginning in
summer. What is the procedure?
A.New, reentry, or transfer students must first be admitted to UW-Madison to qualify for summer Web enrollment. See Admissions.
Once admitted, you'll be given class enrollment instructions.
Q. I am attending Summer Session to take classes for credit
but not toward a degree. How do I enroll?
A. You need to be admitted to the University as a
nondegree University Special student. See University
Special students for more information and a link to the
online application.
Q. Are my course credits transferable
to another college or university?
A.In most cases the answer is yes, but
check with your home campus to be sure.
Q. How much does it cost to attend
UW-Madison Summer Session?
A. You pay by the credit based on your classification
and residency status. See Tuition Information.
Q. How do I know what dates my course is offered?
A. There are sessions of varying lengths running from late May though mid-August. If you want to know what dates a particular course is offered, search for the class in the Schedule of Classes and then click the ‘View Sections’ link. Both the session code (ie DHH) and the dates are listed along with the days, times, room, and instructor information. If you are looking for which classes are available during a particular session, use the ‘Session’ search criteria in the Schedule of Classes.
Q. Once I enroll, can I drop a class without owing tuition?
A. If you drop a course before it begins, you will owe no tuition. If you drop after the course begins, tuition may be charged depending on the date you drop the class and the length of the session for the course. The tuition adjustment deadlines vary accordingly. To know your tuition obligation, click the calendar icon in your class list in MyUW Student Center or consult the Key Deadlines chart posted online by the Registrar’s Office.
Q. What if I decide to drop all my classes once I've enrolled in Summer Session?
A. If you drop all of your summer classes prior to completing any of them, you should also officially “withdraw” from the Summer Session, using the Term Withdrawal Tab in the MyUW Student Center.
Q. How can I keep up with any changes related to summer class offerings, enrollment, tuition/fees,
and more?
A. Go to the registrar’s home page at registrar.wisc.edu for updates.
