Have you earned the credits you need for your license renewal? We offer continuing education that will help you fulfill the mandated continuing education requirements. The programs listed on this page fall within the subject matter areas identified by the Examining Boards for Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Professional Counselors and Psychologists for continuing education in Wisconsin. We offer face-to-face workshops as well as online classes that can be taken from anywhere in the country.

Approved credits
Programs offered by the Department of Professional Development & Applied Studies are approved for the following credits.
Social Work Credits:
Social Workers: The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Professional Development and Applied Studies, (PDAS), (provider number #1042) is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), (800-225-6880) through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. PDAS maintains responsibility for the program.
WI, IA, MI and MN Boards of Social Work recognize ACE programs.
IL Registered Social Worker Continuing Education Sponsor #159.000243.
Counselors: PDAS is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. PDAS adheres to NBCC continuing education guidelines (Provider #5990).
WI Psychologists, and Marriage and Family Therapists: Qualifies as an accredited university continuing education course relevant to professional practice.
WI Substance Abuse Counselors: Qualifies as a continuing education course consisting of relevant subject matter taught by qualified presenters.
Educators: This program may qualify towards your Professional Development Plans (PDPs).
Other professions: Completion of each program qualifies for continuing education hours. Contact your own board or organization for specific continuing education requirements.

Online Continuing Education Opportunities:
You are allowed 16 hours of online credit towards the 30 total hours needed, so online courses are an excellent way for busy professionals to pick up continuing education hours. These courses are designed to meet your professional needs while accommodating your busy life. They allow you to engage interactively with colleagues in the virtual classroom, and the courses are more in-depth than traditional workshops. You just commit to participate online, choosing your own schedule for reading assignments and class discussion each week.

The UW-Madison School of Social Work: This department is a good campus resource for social workers and occasionally offers continuing education programs, as well.
