Who registers for these courses?

Practitioners, supervisors, and managers from social work, psychology, prevention, and rehabilitation in the fields of mental health, aging, substance abuse, and other community services who are interested in increasing and improving their knowledge and practice.

Credits available

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Professional Development and Applied Studies (provider #1042) is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (800) 225-6880 through the Approved Continuing Education program. The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Professional Development and Applied Studies maintains responsibility for the program.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is also an approved provider by the Wisconsin Psychological Examining Board to offer continuing education credits for psychologists.

16 hours (1.6 CEUs) are awarded for each 4-week course or 24 hours (2.4 CEUs) for each 6-week course based on an estimated 4 hours of participation each week.

Please note: These are continuing education courses for professionals. They fulfill ongoing certification requirements for continuing education credits/hours, however they do not carry University of Wisconsin undergraduate or graduate credit.

Course access

About one week prior to the start of your class, you will be sent readings by surface mail. To ensure privacy online you will receive an e-mail with website access information and a personal code. An orientation is available online.

Computer requirements

Computer requirements to use Learn@UW online courses are as follows:

  • An Internet connection
  • A Web browser such as Internet Explorer 5.0 higher; Netscape 6 or higher; Mozilla; or Safari. Netscape 7.0 is recommended for Mac users.
  • Email account (address). You must have an email address to take the course; please include it with your registration.
