Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older Adult: Geriatric Mental Health Care on the Frontlines
The only one of its kind in Midwest, this two-day professional continuing education program offers you an intensive look at depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and dementias in late life. If you are on the front lines you will not want to miss this.
Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older Adult: Geriatric Mental Health Care on the Frontlines
In addition to being at greater risk for chronic physical ailments, one in every five older Americans also confronts mental health concerns. While new research in geriatric mental disorders provides us the data and effective assessment and treatment methods, there is a shortage of health and human service professionals with the training to best care for aging adults with these mental health challenges.
By participating in this institute you’ll gain skills to better understand and treat the complexities of late life physical illness, multiple medications, life events and mental illness that this age cohort suffers from. You’ll hear evidence-based best practices and enhance clinical skills to better care for older adults with mental illness.
Our program faculty of neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, geriatricians and other health professionals are leading experts who will engage you in a collaborative exploration of treatment methods for late life mental illness.
This essential training will give you the tools to better recognize, assess, and treat mental health concerns of older adults. You will:
- Hear from leading geriatric experts from UW-Madison on current research in cognitive decline
- Learn practice-relevant skills to better treat late life mental disorders
- Gain knowledge to apply directly to practice with older adults and their families
Who Should Attend:
Social workers, case managers, nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists and other professionals who work with aging adults.
