Gard Wisconsin Idea Foundation celebrates the School of the Arts at Rhinelander’s 50th year, honoring SOA founder Robert E. Gard, the Wisconsin Idea, and generations of instructors, family and friends, and community partners. Special acknowledgement goes to the Northern Arts Council.

School of the Arts Individual Showcase
Calling all School of the Arts artists: Here’s your chance to grab 2 minutes of fame! Show a painting, read a poem, play a song. Sign up in advance. Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

6:30-8pm School of the Arts Open House: Celebrate the Arts!
Join us at James Williams Middle School for a wonderful School of the Arts event! Beginning at 6:30pm, hear Wisconsin poet laureate Max Garland and Rhinelander poet Brent Goodman read their works. From 7-8pm experience a retrospective of School of the Arts’ first 50 years, instructor displays, community partner displays, demonstrations, live music, refreshments, door prizes, and of course, the Community Art Project. Free and open to the public.
6:30-8pm Rhinelander District Library Lecture Series: Up in the U.P.!
Also at 6:30, Bill Jamerson—author, filmmaker, and songwriter—will present an evening of song and stories. At the Rhinelander District Library. Free and open to the public.

School of the Arts Community Luncheon
George Tzougros, executive director of the Wisconsin Arts Board, will emcee a community luncheon honoring SOA. Local dignitaries and honored guests will also be in attendance. Bring a lunch, or purchase something from the SOA canteen, and join us. In the Commons. Free and open to the public. There will be cake for all!

5pm Northern National Art Competition opening reception
The Northern National Art Competition is a juried art show awarding more than $8,500 in prizes. The NNAC is a cooperative venture between the Northern Arts Council and the Nicolet College Art Gallery. Purchase tickets for $15 on-site at School of the Arts, Nicolet College Art Gallery, 5364 College Drive.
