Logistics
Location — The Madison Early Music Festival is held at the UW-Madison, School of Music, located in the Mosse Humanities Building. Detailed maps will be mailed to all who register.
Transportation — Madison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport and most major airlines. By car, Madison is approximately 70 minutes from Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport and 2-1/2 hours from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Quality bus service is provided from both airports directly to the UW-Madison campus near the Conference site.

Housing — Campus housing is available in Chadbourne Hall, a newly renovated dormitory facility just across the street from the workshop site. Single rooms are $55.46 per person per night and double rooms are $37.51 per person per night (includes full daily breakfast). Reservations are due by June 14th to assure availability. Weekend Hotel Package — Are you an out-of-towner able to attend only some of the MEMF concerts? We have packages which include two concerts and two nights’ lodging at Madison’s downtown Concourse Hotel. Package 1 includes concerts on Saturday 7/6 (Piffaro) and Sunday 7/7 (Parthenia). Package 2 includes concerts on Thursday 7/11 (Calmus Ensemble Leipzig) and Friday 7/12 (All-Festival Concert). Additionally, there are several hotels available near the workshop site; a list will be supplied upon request (see Registration Form).
Meals — Madison is known for its excellent restaurant scene, and the workshop site is very close to some of its best casual, fast food, and fine dining restaurants. Those housed in Chadbourne Hall will receive breakfast in the Chadbourne dining room as part of the housing package. Breakfast tickets for non-residents may be purchased from the MEMF office ($5.75).
Parking — A limited number of parking permits have been reserved for MEMF near the workshop site, and a campus parking permit may be purchased directly from the UW-Madison Transportation Department for $12 per day. A permit application will be supplied upon registration, but reservation and payment must be arranged directly with the Transportation Office. Hourly parking is also available in a nearby City of Madison ramp, but not for overnight parking. Parking permits must be reserved by June 15.
Instruments —Participants are expected to bring their own instruments. A few historical reproductions may be available for rental for $50 for the week. If you wish to rent an instrument, indicate so on your registration form. We will need to know by June 1 if you are requesting an instrument. Tickets and Fees
Concert Tickets — Week-long All Festival Concert Passes and individual concert tickets may be purchased at the door (starting at 5pm on Saturday 7/7; 6pm on all other days) or in advance online; at the Vilas Hall Box Office (821 University Ave.); at the Wisconsin Union Theater Box Office (Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. and Union South, 1308 W. Dayton St.); or by calling 608-265-ARTS (2787). Tickets for individual concerts are $20 (students $17). The All Festival Concert Pass ($75) includes admission to all five evening concerts throughout the week.
Workshop Registration Fees — Early-bird registration fee for the seven-day workshop (including all concerts and social events) is $495 by June 1. Thereafter the registration fee is $525. Full-time college students may register for the workshop at a discounted registration fee of $395 ($425 after June 1); proof of full-time status must accompany Registration Form (note that workshop classes are open to participants ages 18 and above). A $75 nonrefundable deposit is required to secure registration, with the balance due upon arrival. Additional fees may include Festival music purchase and optional instrument rental fees, all payable by cash or check upon arrival. Please note that housing fees and optional credit fees are not to be paid at time of registration.
Work Study Opportunities — MEMF offers a limited number of work-study opportunities for college students in exchange for a further-reduced registration fee. Past Participant Bring-A-Friend Discount — Past participants may take advantage of the Bring-a-Friend discount if someone who has never attended MEMF comes to the 2013 workshop at your encouragement. The sponsor and new participant each register for the full workshop for only $395 each ($425 after June 1). Please note that only one Bring-a-Friend discount is allowed per participant. Also, if your friend does not register, you will be responsible for the remaining $100 of your registration fee upon arrival at the Festival. Please note that this offer is available only to full Festival participants and may not be used in combination with any other special discounts.
Academic Credit and Continuing Education Units — Full participants in the Festival Workshop automatically earn 4.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at no charge. Participants may earn 1-2 academic credit(s) by completing the University of Wisconsin Special and Guest Student application process and paying the appropriate fee (approx. $436 per credit) in addition to the Workshop registration fee. Please note that credit registration and fee payment are separate procedures from Workshop registration. If you are interested in earning credit, mark the appropriate space on the Registration Form, and detailed credit information, requirements, and registration materials will be mailed to you.
