El Nuevo Mundo: The Age of Exploration in the New World
The Madison Early Music Festival and Workshop, which recently celebrated its tenth season, takes place one week each July. The Festival brings nationally and internationally renowned performers to Madison to perform and to teach workshop classes, providing listening and learning opportunities for everyone.
Madison Early Music Festival 2011 presents the fusion of cultures and music in the New World during the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Long-established European music brought to the New World by 16th-century Spanish conquistadors, minstrels, and Jesuit missionaries was flavored by the indigenous American people with the spicy folk sonorities of guitars, harps, percussion, and dance rhythms.
The 2011 concert series will feature an exciting array of artists and ensembles:
July 9: Piffaro
July 10: The Rose Ensemble
July 12: Ensemble Viscera
July 14: MEMF Faculty Concert
July 15: Chatham Baroque
July 16: All-Festival Concert
