What is French camp?
French Camp on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus is a creative and fun way to improve French language skills and make new friends. French camp provides French language immersion, using French only and avoiding translating into English, designed for beginning and continuing French students aged 4-14 years. Students are encouraged but not required to try speaking French, even if it is just a few words.
Our enthusiastic and certified French teachers and native Francophones provide instruction in the mornings with crafts, skits, music, and field trips; afternoons are more recreation-focused with games, songs, and conversation.
Morning session 8:45 am–1 pm: $215/week
Full-day session 8:45 am–4 pm: $295/week (ages 6 and up)
Discounts: Early-bird discount $35 (register by May 1).
Price includes a nonrefundable $50 deposit.
Students may attend either the morning-only session OR the all-day session. Afternoon-only is not offered. Only students aged 6 and up may attend the all-day session.
Each week of camp is self-contained. Students do not need to attend week 1 in order to enjoy and benefit from week 2. However, increased exposure helps with retention. Age groupings vary slightly by year depending on the ages of participants registered for camp.
Students should bring their lunch each day. On Friday of each week there will be a family potluck followed by student performances.
Lead instructors
Marie-Alice Sicard (MA, Linguistics) has lived and worked in France for eight years and studied at the Sorbonne. She has taught bilingual education.
Shari Thompson (MA, French, Paris campus of New York University) has experience teaching students in kindergarten through high school. She currently teaches French at Verona High School.

Check-in and parking
Check-in and out is in front of the French House at 633 N Frances St., Madison, WI 53703. (map)
Parking is very limited near the French House. If a space cannot be found on the street, the Lake/Frances St. ramp is available for longer-term parking (e.g. the day of the student production and pot-luck lunch). Drop-off and pick-up lasting no more than 5 minutes should not be a problem.
Students need to be picked up on time or a cash fee will be charged.
