My wife and I were teaching school in Palaumpur, India two years ago. We were not too far from Dharamsala, India the current home of the Dalai Lama. There are many Tibetan communities in this area. In the village of Bir we were visiting a Buddhist Monastery. We came across an elderly woman amongst the increasing numbers of younger refugees escaping Tibet and living a life in exile in Bir. She was amazed to see her picture in our camera’s LCD monitor and she laughed and laughed. In her face and eyes I could see the years of devotion and commitment to her beliefs. The woodcuts were purchased from a young man (13 years old) that was learning to be a carver.
