University of Wisconsin System application

Use the UW-System online application to apply to UW-Madison as a University Special student in any of these classifications:

  • Professional development or personal enrichment (UNDS)

  • Preparation for admission to graduate or professional school (UNRS)

  • Visitor from another college or university (UNVS) - please submit a recent transcript to our office

  • Guest auditor (UGST) - (Senior Guest auditors use the application found here)

Application FAQs: 

How long does it take to complete the application? Allow 30-60 minutes to complete the application. 

What questions will I have to answer? In addition to personal and education information, you will be asked some questions to determine residency. Note: While it may seem unusual to be asked questions about your parents, it is one of the quickest ways to establish your residency for tuition purposes so please answer all questions completely to avoid delays in processing your application. 

Will I receive confirmation that my application was received? Yes, as long as you remember to hit submit!  You will receive an email submission confirmation from UW-System immediately and another from our office (UW-Madison ACSSS) the next business day.

How long before I hear about my admission decision? In most cases your application will be processed within 2 weeks.  We will notify you via email if additional information is required.
