Music theory: choose your own topic

Choose the music topic you want to explore

This is a noncredit, online music class through UW-Madison Continuing Studies.

Are there gaps in your knowledge of music theory? Are there aspects of music theory that you wish you understood better?

Design your own noncredit course around a music theory topic of your choice. Your course could include music theory topics such as fundamentals, counterpoint, part writing, chords, harmony, melody, or others.

Work at your own pace and take up to a year to finish. A friendly music teacher provides advice, exercises, recommendations for materials, and critiques.

Need credits? This course is not available for college credit. If you are interested in earning 3.0 university credits consider Music 151/351. Please note: The content of the for-credit Music 151/351 is significantly more material than one would cover in a noncredit course. We cannot provide that amount of content in this non-credit course format.

Costs

Registration for this noncredit course is only $195. You will earn 3.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) when you complete the course.

Please contact Dr. Jamie Henke: jhenke@dcs.wisc.edu before you register to discuss content for your individually designed course. It is helpful to have a written record of your planned course content. Email is the best way to accomplish this. You may register any time.
